The talented Cucu Diamantes will be traveling from Cuba to Miami for an exclusive performance the weekend of Art Basel. Cucu Diamantes is a Grammy nominated Cuban-American singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. Her 2009 solo debut Cuculand received a Latin Grammy Nomination for Best Alternative Song, "Mas Fuerte."
About Cucu Diamantes - Co-founder of the N.Y.C.-based band Yerba Buena, Cucu Diamantes is also a solo artist and actress. Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Diamantes started her career singing in a salsa band while studying art in Italy. After a move to New York City, she met producer Andres Levin and formed Yerba Buena, a Latin-meets-hip-hop-meets-dance-music band whose 2003 effort President Alien was nominated for the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album Grammy Award. Cabaret music was the main influence behind her 2009 solo effort Cuculand, which received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Song, "Mas Fuerte." In 2012 she was the focus of Amor Cronico, a film that followed Cucu on her travels across Cuba.
About Alain Perez - This young Cuban bassist, percussionist, pianist, singer, composer, arranger and producer has links to the jazz scene and an extensive discography. His talent has allowed him to work with Cuban ensembles and musicians such as Irakere, Van Van, Isaac Delgado and his group, Paquito de Rivera, Celia Cruz and Javier Masó "Caramelo".
Alain has spent most of his career in Madrid, where he has been adopted by flamenco legends such as Enrique Morente, Paco de Lucía, Diego "El Cigala", Niño Josele and Javier Limón. In 2002, he was awarded the SGAE’s First Prize for Latin Jazz, and he has produced albums for Celia Cruz and Habana Abierta.
